FIRST there was the copycat. Now it's the copy cow.
In a bid to boost tourism to the tiny town of Jamberoo, former dairy farmer and milko Johnny Davis has taken matters into his own hands and teamed up with Jamberoo Public School students to ``clone" a cow.
The cow will have the exact measurements of one of Jamberoo's prized Illawarra cows - Mr Davis measured the real one himself.
Made of pipes and papier mache, it will sit in front of the Ampol service station to advertise a new display promoting the town's dairy industry.
``Jamberoo is where the first dairy co-op in the world was set up, it's where the first produce of any type was produced for export (and) it's where your spreadable butter originally came from," Mr Davis said.
``I've got an opportunity to promote the history and heritage of Jamberoo and the Australian dairy industry."
But Mr Davis denied it was a copy of the model cow in Kiama - it was the real McCoy, he said.
``It's a true blue, ridgy-didge cloned cow." The cow frame will be on public display at the Ampol service station next Saturday from 8am to midday with a free sausage sizzle.
